ESTABLISHMENT:

Initial nomination and election of the Youth Ministries Committee members took place at the October 31, 2004 Congregational Meeting.  The Youth Ministries Committee was organized at its initial meeting in January 2005 according to Article E Section 1 of the Zion United Church of Christ Constitution and Bylaws.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Youth Ministries Committee is to develop, evaluate, and execute the children’s and youth programs of the Church. This committee is to meet during at least ten months of the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Youth Ministries Committee shall oversee the work of any Children’s and/or Youth Leaders hired by the Church Council.  Guidelines for job duties, hours worked, and periodic evaluations shall be coordinated with the Church Council.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee chairperson may attend the monthly meetings of the Church Council of Zion United Church of Christ, with voice but not vote, and may be on the agenda as needed to present reports.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee shall plan and coordinate programs for the youth and children of Zion Church, seeking to involve all parents and/or guardians of children and youth of the church in the planning process.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee chairperson shall receive and handle all youth-related mail received by the church.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee shall make recommendations each fall to the Budget Committee about budgeting for the children’s and youth programs through the annual church budget, utilizing funds designated for the children’s and youth programs.  Such funds shall be kept in the general church accounts and reported upon by the church treasurer, with checks issued to the Youth Ministries Committee as budgeted.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee financial accounts shall be audited annually as a part of the church financial audit.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee shall make recommendations to the Church Council about requesting special offerings from the congregation to support special youth programs.
  • The Youth Ministries Committee shall plan and coordinate with the pastor and the Zion Worship Committee programs or presentations to involve children and youth in the worship services of the church.
